Follow the leader
by Woulfy
I have 6 dogs, I have trained all my dogs to follow the leader and work them all off lead. Whenever I take my dogs out I always work them close, if you let dogs go too far away from you they can go conveniently deaf! Dogs always presume you are walking in a straight line, so I do loads of quick... more
Bikejoring

Hi, I have been exercising my dogs using a mountain bike for around 15 years now. I started with and adult size scooter but found that the bike was a much better option for me. I have alot of cycle paths and open hillside nearby so I am quite lucky. My 2 Northern Inuits Elvis and Ray absolutely love to run... more

Missy's Story
by Pate
Missy had belonged to an old lady and lived with her in her apartment for the last five years of the old dear's life. When their mum passed on, the kids couldn't cope with Missy so they put her straight into Battersea.
There she lived for the next two years.
We went along to Battersea after the death of our darling Spotty, passed the interview and were told we could have any one of their jacks. We said Spotty lived to 18 so we were prepared to take an older one as we know they lived a long time... more

I happened to start chatting to a lady in Devon who is now a very good friend of mine about something completly different, about 2 weeks after chatting she happened to ring for a rant so I listened and it turned out one of her puppies was coming back to her but she didn't know what to do as she already had 4 dogs and didn't know if her pack would accept another dog. I said that as long as they got the pup up to me i'd train her and get her sorted and she could be rehomed from here, I got in touch with the woman who had her and to say I was disgusted was a understatment she had no idea what she was doing with this poor dog who was called Ember all I knew was she had a bad stomach and was dominant that was it, I told kev about it he didn't seem fussed so I started making arrangments for Ember it took me over 6 weeks to get ember to me as this stupid woman kept changing her mind, one week she wanted her then she didn't so in the end I got her address and got a friend of mine to randonmly turn up and get her which worked thank god. Well ember turned up and my god I cried, Kev was shocked and my friend was appalled, you could see ALL her bones, she wasn't interested in anything, she played in the garden with Shila and Ozzy (my friends NI) but she didn't care where she was and showed no interet in any of us. My friend left so I got the dogs in to chill out and I decided to change Embers name but didn't know what to so I left it for a few days as she didn't know her name anyway so it wasn't urgent. First night - No eye contact had very dead eyes,
I got up the day after very early to take them both for a walk, she was good on a lead but not to good, and my god she loved being off her lead, she loved running on the fields and I saw her properly for the first time she was in her element, got her home and stuck her in the bath, she was so dirty it was like she'd never had a bath before. Well with day one over the stress began I found out she had husky in her and she was the only one in the litter that had husky tendancies she ran away up to 5 times a day even if i was in the garden with her, she dug up the lawn, she chased the cats and she refused to listen to ANYTHING. her only good point was she was housetrained and even then I was really struggling with her, I knew I couldn't cope and I was very close to tears a lot of the time but on a evening she used to come n sit next to me n watch me not even Shila did this so I decided on the name Isis which means The most powerful of all the female goddesses of ancient Egypt plus mother and wife, it is very odd but she is such a caring loving girl it fitted. Days and weeks went by and I realised she was going nowhere she belonged here plus I also found out all the horrendous things that she had been subjected to and we were her 7th home so it explained a lot of her issues. She had been with us a month when both dogs were let out the garden Isis had been chained up and both dog collars were in the garden n the gate was open, my first thought was they had been stolen and i was hysterical as in call the men with straight jackets, at that moment I knew 100% she was my dog, they were both found in a field chasing poultry and were at risk of being shot so measures were taken and she is now chained to the front of the house so I can see her and anyone else at all times. I know I whinge about Isis and I struggle terribly some days with her but I love her to bits and now she has HD I know she is going to be here forever bless her. This is my baby girl now -
What a lovely story and thank you so much for sharing it with us at least Isis is very happy for once, and feels belonged for the first time in her life x well done Jem x
